Faces of Independent Banking

American National Bank of Texas Expands Across DFW While Preserving 150 Years of Independent, Community Banking.

American National Bank of Texas is not new to North Texas; the bank grew here, with deep roots going back 150 years. Now in its sixth generation of family leadership, ANBTX continues to grow and expand throughout Dallas-Fort Worth. Despite its growth, the bank hasn’t lost what many industry experts believe is a primary reason for its success, which is maintaining a community-focused, fiercely independent attitude during a time of industry consolidation.

“We want to remain independent; our bank is not for sale,” says Steve White, senior executive vice president and chief strategy officer. “We believe North Texas businesses deserve a local banking relationship, where decisions are made right in the community it serves.”

Part of ANBTX’s strategy is to build upon its already strong reputation in commercial real estate and diversify its portfolio by focusing on those businesses that feel left behind by the recent consolidation of local banks by larger, out-of-state financial institutions. “Often, when a bank is purchased, it can be very disruptive to its customers and employees. We provide the stability and consistency of over 150 years in Dallas-Fort Worth,” White says.

That strategy also includes bringing in bankers who want to be a part of an independent community bank. Earlier this year, ANBTX announced seven key additions to its commercial banking team in Dallas and Frisco. “These bankers chose ANBTX because they believe in what we are doing,” White says. “They want to provide a relationship-driven experience to their customers, without the red-tape and shifting strategies larger organizations bring.”

“One of our primary strengths is the knowledge and experience of our people who know the market and work every day to add new relationships while taking great care of our existing customers,” White adds. “We have a seasoned team with deep expertise across a variety of industries.”

American National Bank of Texas isn’t slowing down anytime soon, recently opening a new banking center in Heath and a Wealth Management office in Richardson.

“We’re all about relationships—not transactions—and we know that’s how we will be able to differentiate ourselves in the market,” White says. “North Texas continues to grow and so do we. We have a great opportunity to be the leading community bank for North Texas, and that’s exactly what we want to be.”
